Prayer For Those Struggling With Addiction

Pray For Spiritual Support

A Prayer For Those Suffering Addiction

A robust support system is very crucial to those struggling to battle an addiction. Pray that your loved one obtains help from family, friends, and colleagues. According to 1st Corinthians 15:33, bad company corrupts good morals, and therefore, pray that God will protect your loved one from bad companies.

From the excerpt, Paul was warning Christians to beware of false teachers that can lead them astray from the teachings of Jesus. Similarly, addicts should stay away from people who can encourage them to go back to their life of addiction.

Also, remember to pray that the addict finds a strong accountability partner to help them navigate through it. Pray that the addict finds a community that they fellowship together to maintain a healthy lifestyle free from drugs. For example, a church community that believes in God is an excellent instrument for networking and fellowship.

The Efficacy Of Prayer

Prayer and mantras as described above have been widely used in treatment and recovery programs, but are they effective? Science supports prayer appears to be an effective tool for relaxing the body, lowering blood pressure, and helping uplift mood. As such, prayer or mantras may be most beneficial when they are recited during times of high stress or tension. Repetition of prayer can play a critical role in reducing blood pressure and inducing calm for the troubled individual. Which prayers work best for one person, depends a lot on their belief system and what the individual finds meaningful. Sometimes addiction has so far blinded a person from any awareness of good left within them, it is easier to acknowledge good outside of the body, a spiritual awareness while beginning to reconnect with the good inherent in the person. Someone recovering from a long-term addiction may find himself or herself in a place of destruction, in which relationships, career, and finances have fallen apart. They may feel unlovable, unreachable at the start. This is where prayer can help reinforce a message of hope that they are not lost, that there is light at the end of this dark, dark tunnel.

Pray For Peace And Acceptance

The faith words from Philippians 4:13 say that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. All things include freeing your loved ones from their addictions through prayers.

First, you need to pray that your loved ones acknowledge their addiction and seek help. You cannot help a person who cannot recognize that their mistakes harm the people close to them.

You may also encourage the addict to draw strength by reciting prayers like Serenity Prayer written by Reinhold Niebuhr. The Serenity Prayer helps the addict accept their addiction problem and acknowledge that they cannot control everything. The prayer encourages us to depend on the power of God to do things that we cannot control.

A Prayer For Parents Of Addicts

The sobering reality of addictions prevalence is evident in our daily prayers. The addicted people we are praying for have increasingly become our people. Our family our friends our circles of influence our kids. When we feel a child is lost, slipping away, and have only a crack in the door to peek in on their lives we can turn to the One in control to restore life.

My Father is always at His work.

We can conclude from the miracles of Jesus that God accomplishes the impossible. Jesus came to do His Fathers work , and told us that His Father is always at work. When we see our children spiral downward into a hole of bad decisions and strangling demons, know that a miracle-working God is watching the whole thing. Trust that He has their best interest in mind, and is more than capable of pulling them up and out. Place hope in His pursuit of them. No matter how well weve prepared our babies for battle, they still have to lift the armor over their shoulders and learn to draw the sword.

Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.

Prayer Against The Temptation To Return To My Addiction

Prayer For Drug Addicts

Dear Lord, how I thank You for Your grace towards me, for you have lifted me up out of the pit that my life was in and have set my feet on the rock of my Salvation, which is Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for freeing me from the shame and sin of my addiction, which has robbed me of so many of years of my life, and caused me to lose not only my home but many of my friends and family as well.Lord Jesus, there are those that would seek to entice me back into the shadow from which I escaped and are trying to almost blackmail me into returning back to my life of crime and debauchery â but I have been set free and I do not want to return. Keep me from temptation on those occasions when I feel alone, and protect me from the pressures that I have been put under on certain occasions to return.Lord I know that all my past sins have been forgiven and that I am clothed in the righteousness of Christ Jesus. Keep me walking in the path of holiness and protect me from those that are still slaves to their addictions. I pray, Lord, that You will rescue those of my friends that are still enthralled in the world of addiction. I ask this in Jesus’ name,Amen.

To Be Freed From My Burdensome Addiction

Dear Lord Jesus, my addiction is a terrible burden and a such a shame to me and yet I find myself constantly returning to behaviours that I hate and long to be able to shed. I am so ashamed Lord, and yet I know that You were the One Who said that You came to set the captives free, and Lord I am a captive. I am a captive and slave of this terrible addiction and yet to long to be freed and to live a normal life. Free me Lord I pray from this compulsion, for it is stifling my life and has cost me many dear friends as well as my job. I long to be free to live as I ought. I have heard the gospel and I do believe that Jesus died to take the full punishment for all my sins, including my addiction and I believe that He rose the third day, which broke the power of death in the lives of all who believe. So I am coming to you to ask You Lord to give me the abundant life that You have promised. I know that eternal life is now my portion, but I pray that I may be free of my addiction in this life so that I may serve You as You deserve. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.

Universal Messages In Prayers Relating To Addiction

Prayer For Addiction

There are some common themes that emerge throughout in prayers and mantras relating to addiction. These prayers often relate to seeking the truth, demonstrating how muddled our perceptions become when we are using. They ask us to remain honest and acknowledge the addiction not to control or manage it. They showcase the courage it takes for someone to face the fear, damage inflicted by, and the severity of cravings and withdrawal symptoms relating to addiction. Most, as with the Serenity Prayer, they identify a notion that the addicted individual fell into addiction because they were suffering from some underlying struggle. And nearly all highlight awareness of a higher power, whether it be God, or finding serenity in nature seeking out something pure on a path out of darkness and shadow. One particular bible verse found within Corinthians, quite simply acknowledges the free will to choose to use, while including a most helpful mantra in contrast, I will not be mastered by anything. Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

Father, Praise You for miracles, and Your perfect timing to bring them into our lives. The winter is bitter cold and brown day after day until suddenly, one warm day ushers in a thaw. Watching someone we love succumb to the grip of addiction wraps our hearts in an icy chill. Suddenly, we become closed to anything other than panic and reaction, worry and blame, solution and force. But, that is not Your way.

Father, You love us in a perfect way, even in the middle of our mess. And in the middle of our childrens messes,You love them perfectly, too. Thank You for the evidence of Your miraculous power through Jesus life. He reminded us that He came to do Your work, and that You are always at Your work. That includes our children their addictions their demons their mistakes and their sicknesses.

Thank You for loving our kids beyond our capacity.

When we cant see whats happening in our childrens lives, we can rejoice because You hold them in Your hands. Their journey with You is as unique as they are. Thank You for the individual way Jesus comes after each unique human heart.

Losing Hope Through Addiction

Gracious God, I bring all those who think that they are a hopeless case and that there is no way out of the terrible addiction which has entrapped them. Lord, there are so many people who have become enslaved to various forms of addiction – yet we know that there is wonderful hope for everyone, no matter what level to which they have sunk, for Christ died for all. His death paid the price for every addict and all they have to do is to believe that Christ died on the cross to take the punishment that they deserve and rose to give them life. If they will only believe.. Look down with Your grace and compassion on all who are so entrapped in their addictions and I pray that You will bring many out from this terrible existence, which is so harmful and so degrading. Bless all Father and may Your Holy Spirit seek out and save many such souls who turn to Christ as Saviour. Amen.
