How To Get Free From Drug Addiction

Drug addiction brims with regular usage and persistence. What people should keep in mind is that to get rid of the addiction, you need to give in equal or even a higher level of diligence.

Here are a few ways to help you overcome your addiction issues by natural means

  • Have clarity of mind

Addiction is not a simple form of illness. The progressive disease consists of several layers. You need to delve in deep in order to resolve the issues at every step.

Addiction is also accompanied by several factors like anxiety, anger, depression, sadness. Along with addiction, the task is to also handle all the other problems.

This way, detoxifying oneself helps to treat the root cause of the ailment. The chances of relapses become significantly less if one works on each layer and tries to figure out the solution to each existing problem.

Effective methods to manage your headspace can be engaging yourself in meditation, reading books, or even listening to music.

Throughout the period, while you introspect, it is mandated not to be harsh to oneself and take gradual steps to divert your attention from addiction to more relaxing activities.

P.S. An easier means of meditating is to indulge yourself completely in any activity that you do. Did you know that this is also a kind of meditation?

If sitting upright with your eyes closed makes you unable to focus, then a better alternative is to do any activity you enjoy with your full attention.

  • Take supplements

  • Try a habit breaker

Take It A Step At A Time

Gradually taking positive steps is the healthiest way to overcoming addiction. You will be working towards changing your behavior in small ways until it becomes a habit. Doing this is not easy. There will be moments where you will relapse and go back to your old habits.

In those moments, acknowledge and accept that you made a mistake and try to avoid repeating it.

Beating yourself up over a mistake can easily cause you to fall back to old patterns. Therefore, being compassionate and forgiving yourself in such moments is crucial for this journey.

Remembering that this is a process that will take time and effort will keep you from being too hard on yourself. It will also ensure that you keep pushing even in the face of difficulties and self-doubt.

To keep you motivated to get to your final goal, always remember to reward yourself when you succeed in making any small step forward.

What Are Substance Abuse And Addiction

The difference between substance abuse and addiction is very slight. Substance abuse means using an illegal substance or using a legal substance in the wrong way. Addiction begins as abuse, or using a substance like marijuana or cocaine.

You can abuse a drug without having an addiction. For example, just because Sara smoked pot a few times doesn’t mean that she has an addiction, but it does mean that she’s abusing a drug and that could lead to an addiction.

People can get addicted to all sorts of substances. When we think of addiction, we usually think of alcohol or illegal drugs. But people become addicted to medicines, cigarettes, even glue.

Some substances are more addictive than others: Drugs like crack or heroin are so addictive that they might only be used once or twice before the user loses control.

Addiction means a person has no control over whether he or she uses a drug or drinks. Someone who’s addicted to cocaine has grown so used to the drug that he or she has to have it. Addiction can be physical, psychological, or both.

Why Overcoming Addiction Is So Difficult

According to the American Society of Addiction Medicine, addiction is a “treatable, chronic medical disease involving complex interactions among brain circuits, genetics, the environment, and an individuals life experiences.”

People continue to engage in harmful behaviors despite negative consequences because addiction changes the brain’s reward system, which increases the desire for the substances or experiences. These changes in the brain also affect impulse control and judgment, which makes quitting that much more challenging.

Though addiction recovery is challenging, addiction is treatable. With supportive resources and the right treatment approach, you can overcome the physical and mental challenges you face in order to recover.

Find The Solution In Minds Google

After reviewing the first point, you may have realized that you are addicted, now lets find a way to get rid of it. You can delete all social media applications and other time-consuming software from mobile, but research has shown that it is not very effective. You cant remove addiction in one night.

Once a philosopher said, Who says cigarettes cant be given up? I quit that 158 times!

Similarly, if you want to get rid of addiction effectively, you need to set aside time to use the Internet. Suppose, you used to be on Facebook for 3 hours daily, now you have decided not to stay for more than 2 hours in any way.

And, after doing this continuously for a week without any issue, then try to stay 1.5 hours each day .

And after a couple of weeks, you will see you have only 1 hour or 30 minutes to use that particular social site, then your mind will persuade you to use this time efficiently.

In this way, it will come under full control one day.

Change The Setting Of Your Phone

How Social Media Destroys Your Life? | Science behind Addiction | Dhruv Rathee

One of the most common suggested ideas for reducing cell phone addiction, is to reduce the usage by simply changing the settings on your phone. Some of the most common suggested ideas are-

  • To Turn off notifications or put on do not disturb mode
  • Set screen to black-and-white

Why 21 Days Isnt Enough

The assumption that it takes 21 days to break a habit comes from a book called Psycho-Cybernetics. In the book, author and plastic surgeon Dr. Maxwell Maltz noticed that his patients need about 21 days to get used to their new faces. But addiction is more powerful than an ordinary habit, and recent studies show that for most people, 21 days isnt enough time to see any substantial change.

Research shows that it takes about 66 days to change repetitive behavior patterns. One landmark study conducted by researchers at the University College London discovered that the time individuals needed to change their behavior patterns varied from 18 to 254 days. The study also concluded that most people take at least 2 months to develop new behavior patterns.

Use Coins To Mark Your Progress

You can pick up a bunch of 30 coins and label them 1 to 30 with a washable marker. After you do this, you can pop one coin in a jar of water for every day that you go without indulging in your addictive substance or behavior. The more you proceed without backsliding into your old addiction, the more your coins you are able to collect in the jar. If you slip up on one day, you have to pour all the coins out of the jar and start again. The activity of starting again is psychologically painful. It makes you see how much progress you are undoing. Consequently the token method is highly effective in helping you to get rid of any addiction in 30 days or less. The coins are highly effective because when you make it to thirty days, you can use them to buy yourself something special to mark your recovery.

Explore Your Addiction Treatment Options

Once youve committed to recovery, its time to explore your treatment choices. While addiction treatment can vary according to the specific drug, a successful program often includes different elements, such as:

Detoxification. Usually the first step is to purge your body of drugs and manage withdrawal symptoms.

Behavioral counseling. Individual, group, and/or family therapy can help you identify the root causes of your drug use, repair your relationships, and learn healthier coping skills.

Medication may be used to manage withdrawal symptoms, prevent relapse, or treat any co-occurring mental health condition such as depression or anxiety.

Long-term follow-up can help to prevent relapse and maintain sobriety. This may include attending regular in-person support groups or online meetings to help keep your recovery on track.
