How To Stop Gaming Addiction

Gaming Addiction And Depression

How to Stop Gaming Addiction? / The truth you need…

Depression and similar disorders have been identified as both a potential cause of and the potential consequence of, gaming addiction. Depression can leave an individual feeling apathetic and hopeless about the future, thus reducing the apparent importance of any long-term work or academic aspirations and increasing the appeal of effectively inconsequential but immediately gratifying activities such as computer gaming.

The often solitary and effectively meaningless nature of computer gaming makes it even more dangerous in this regard, and various vicious cycles can develop as an affected individuals self-worth can become ever more diminished by loneliness, fatigue, obesity, poor hygiene, an inability to communicate successfully with others, lessened employment or career prospects, guilt and shame, and even a poor performance within a game or games.

Insanely Simple Steps For Killing The Mobile Gaming Addiction

Like other teenagers, I was once victimised by gaming addiction. As years progressed, the addiction only grew stronger. It started out with a Desktop PC and later shifted to smartphones. I still remember playing Road Rash on a trash PC and how years later I ended up playing Call of Duty. When I didnt have much time for these giants, I started playing RPGs on my smartphone like Clash of Clans, Samurai Siege, DomiNations, Boom Beach and even a few games from the different genre like Subway Surfer, Shadow Fight, Temple Run and the list goes on.

Honestly, I still play a few of them . But Ive managed to cut down all time I spent ..or wasted? I truly believe if you clicked on this article, you must have at least once in your life faced the gaming addiction. Therefore, Im going to share how I killed my gaming addiction and how you can too.

There is no fancy technique but a few simple steps. I first thought Id never stop playing games. In fact, I never really stopped. I still play sometimes but not on the cost of my productivity.

The truth about boosting productivity isnt compromising on the things you love, but proper allocation of time for everything.

I calculated the time I spent on games. It was pretty too much. I have even spent over 6 hours a day just sitting in front of the screen. When I switched to mobile devices, I believe the time spent while playing was even more as I clicked the game icons more than I clicked my mail or social media.

Develop A Sense Of Purpose

Without a sense of purpose, life can become unbearable. Floating around in a directionless haze is its own unique form of torture.

As human beings, we are built to pursue goals. The dopamine systems in our brains are made for this purpose. In the absence of meaningful goals, gaming can fill this void, offering a sense of purpose through elaborate missions or storylines.

Although it can be entertaining to play games, for this reason, we need to recognize when the online world is becoming a substitute for a sense of purpose in our offline world.

So what is the antidote to offline purposelessness?

Make yourself useful!

In theory, it sounds easy. Its not too hard to find someone needing help. The problem is that you cant be useful to anyone else if youre not useful to yourself first.

The key is that your way of contributing fits your unique personal strengths.

Misalignment between your strengths, values, and interests can hinder your level of usefulness and the resulting level of purpose you feel toward the role. Finding alignment between your abilities and your role requires first knowing your strengths and cultivating them.

If you want to delve way more in-depth into this topic, you can check out my comprehensive article: What Does It Mean to Have a Purpose?

Developing a sense of purpose in our offline worlds can help reduce the risk of a gaming addiction by filling this basic human need to strive for something beyond ourselves.

Companies Going Public Is The Beginning Of The End

Gaming Addiction

Being a corporate shill myself and seeing how games have devolved to. I believe that companies going public in the stock market is the beginning of their end.

It could happen right away, in a few weeks or years, but eventually they’ll focus on the bottom line over everything.

I don’t have the time or energy but I’m wondering if someone has a study of when game companies went public or got acquired by public companies and how their products have changed.

I mean look at the games that comes out these days. Absolute greed-fest of crap. The same mechanics are recycled forever and they just throw more superficial improvements to keep you distracted from the lack of substance.

These realizations are making it easier to quit tbh. So I’m grateful for that at least.

How To Stop Playing Minecraft

Welcome to our guide on How to Stop Playing Minecraft. If you find yourself playing Minecraft too much, then we will show you step-by-step how to stop and start being more productive in your life.

Back in 2011, when Minecraft was first released, I tried the game for the first time. I was impressed by the simplicity, how it made me think out of the box and how different it was from any other game I had tried before.

After spending a couple of hours with the game, I realized just how deep it was and how creative I could get with it. Creating a base, fighting off creepers, and collecting resources felt so novel. I spent several hours playing the game without realizing it. Before I knew it, I became a Minecraft addict.

And Im not the only player who developed a problem. This gaming addict who stole from his parents was also addicted to Minecraft: I got really into Minecraft because all my friends were playing it. The idea of multiplayer games was so attractive. All of us could play at the same time and have fun together! Even now, I associate Minecraft with happy memories.

Minecraft addiction is a serious problem. It is one of the most addictive video games globally, and its particularly problematic for parents of children who suffer from this type of addiction.

Negative Effects Of Online Gaming

How to TOTALLY Stop Your Video Game Addiction

Some children and teens have difficulty separating the consequences/actions of video games from reality. The gaming character they represent has no consequences in the real world. So in the real world, social skills may become even worse, which can lead to anxiety and depression. Success in some online games often involves mastering anti-social behavior, such as killing and robbery. This anti-social behavior may lead to aggression and an indifferent attitude to human pain and suffering. As the teen becomes more and more involved in these online games, there is an increased disconnection from family and friends and increased vulnerability in forming online contacts and relationships. Often these relationships can become dangerous with the exchange of real information such as phone numbers and face-to-face meeting with strangers they only know from being in an online game.

Popular Beliefs About Video Games

3 Steps To Prevent Video Game Addiction In Kids And What ...

There are many misguided beliefs and misconceptions about video games. In some schools of thought, these computerized programs are entirely negative, promoting violence, sexism, and social isolation among young people. Other perspectives hold that video games can be a valuable tool for education and character development, allowing children to simulate the roles of powerful heroes. In reality, video games have both positive and negative characteristics, and the effect of playing games often depends on the players attitudes toward games and life in general.

Parenting Science proposes that the compelling quality of video games may not be due to an addictive response, but to a psychological phenomenon called flow. Flow takes place when individuals become so immersed in an activity that they lose track of time. Any engaging activity even work or school projects can induce a sense of flow once a person is caught up in the process. While there is nothing necessarily wrong with being immersed in an engaging, educational game, this process can turn into a compulsion if the user is unable to stop, and if it takes time away from other important activities or relationships.

Design Of The Pleasure And/or Happiness And Vg Questionnaire

How to Overcome Video Game Addiction

The Cronbachs alpha showed a high internal coherence between the SHAPS and three items of the Pleasure and VG within the Pleasure and/or Happiness and VG questionnaire. The fourth item has been disregarded its presence would have dropped the Cronbachs alpha to 0.685. The internal coherence obtained between the OHQ and the Happiness and VG items within the Pleasure and/or Happiness and VG questionnaire was quite high for the four items concerned . However, the internal coherence between these four items was too weak due to one item . The exclusion of this item raised the alpha significantly . Consequently, only the consistent items have been kept .

Moreover, it has been examined whether there is an association between VG play frequency and the two areas explored in this survey: the general happiness level and the emotional states associated with VG via the Pleasure and/or Happiness and VG questionnaire. The constitution of the group of frequent gamers and that of non-frequent gamers was determined by calculated median . In line with several studies linking problematic gaming and well-being and life satisfaction, a moderate negative correlation was found between VG high play frequency and the OHQ scores . In addition, there is a marginal significant difference between frequent VG users and non-frequent VG users relative to the OHQ scores.
