If you have high blood pressure or a heart condition, it may become an issue to use too much nicotine. This is another reason why you always want to speak with your doctor before using NRT products.

What To Do If You Slip Or Relapse
Most people try to stop smoking several times before they kick the habit for good, so dont beat yourself up if you slip up and smoke a cigarette. Instead, turn the relapse into a rebound by learning from your mistake. Analyze what happened right before you started smoking again, identify the triggers or trouble spots you ran into, and make a new stop-smoking plan that eliminates them.

Dont let a slip become a mudslide. Throw out the rest of the pack. Its important to get back on the non-smoking track as soon as possible.
Look back at your quit log and feel good about the time you went without smoking.
Find the trigger. Exactly what was it that made you smoke again? Decide how you will cope with that issue the next time it comes up.
Learn from your experience. What has been most helpful? What didnt work?
Are you using a medicine to help you quit? Call your doctor if you start smoking again. Some medicines cannot be used if youre smoking at the same time.

First step: Get out your calendar and set your sight on a Skittles Quit Date. Leading up to that target Quit Date, apply similar taper down techniques to get off the Skittles. In regards to tapering off the Skittles you have options. You can cut down one bag or individual Skittle at a time, or you can try eliminating certain colors first.
If you go the colors route, theres five colors in a bag of Skittles that youll have to work through one at a time. You can stop eating the delicious red ones first. After a few days stop eating the purple ones, and then onto the green ones after that.

The five Food & Drug Administration approved NRT quit smoking medications currently on the market are the nicotine patch, gum, lozenge, spray, and inhaler. When people quit tobacco its more likely they become addicted to the nicotine gum or lozenge rather than the other NRT products.
Disclaimer: Im not aware of any specific data or scientific studies on the topic of NRT addiction so Im relying on my 10 years of experience in the tobacco cessation industry. Ive supported thousands of Quitters on their journey to quit tobacco over the years. Ive spoken to many Quitters myself who shared their stories of becoming addicted to the nicotine gum or lozenge, or knew someone who developed a reliance. Im also relying on testimonials from other tobacco cessation health coaches and other leaders in my field to support my claim that Quitters are much more likely to become addicted to the gum or lozenge than other NRT products.
In my experience in tobacco cessation Ive heard very few stories of people getting addicted to the nicotine patch, spray, or inhaler. Its not as common to get addicted to those products as Quitters who become addicted to the gum or lozenge.

The funniest thing is when you can smoke anywhere I think in a way its less ritualistic. You know, youve got your first one, your last one of the day, but if, if you can light up and smoke wherever you are, theres, theres kind of less pressure on you to smoke now. Whereas if you have to go out of the building to smoke, you begin to think, oh I havent had a cigarette for 40 minutes. Oh I wonder if, now if I stopped doing what Im doing now, I can take a 5 minute break or a ten minute break. If I can a ten minute break I can smoke two.
So youre, youre planning all the time, youre sort of, planning your day around your cigarette breaks and I think in a way its less productive, because its on your mind all the time. Is like if youre on a diet and you think about food all the time, whereas if youre not on a diet you dont think about food at all. And it, its hard to give you a, a sort of what my smoking day was like from the days when you smoke anywhere, because it just wherever you fancied a cigarette. It was far more planned in the years since it became more difficult to smoke.
Preventing Weight Gain After You Stop Smoking
Smoking acts as an appetite suppressant, so gaining weight is a common concern for many of us when we decide to give up cigarettes. You may even be using it as a reason not to quit. While its true that many smokers put on weight within six months of stopping smoking, the gain is usually smallabout five pounds on averageand that initial gain decreases over time. Its also important to remember that carrying a few extra pounds for a few months wont hurt your heart as much as smoking does. However, gaining weight is NOT inevitable when you stop smoking.
Smoking dampens your sense of smell and taste, so after you quit food will often seem more appealing. You may also gain weight if you replace the oral gratification of smoking with eating unhealthy comfort foods. Therefore, its important to find other, healthy ways to deal with unpleasant feelings such as stress, anxiety, or boredom rather than mindless, emotional eating.
Nurture yourself. Instead of turning to cigarettes or food when you feel stressed, anxious, or depressed, learn new ways to quickly soothe yourself. Listen to uplifting music, play with a pet, or sip a cup of hot tea, for example.
Drink lots of water. Drinking at least six to eight 8 oz. glasses will help you feel full and keep you from eating when youre not hungry. Water will also help flush toxins from your body.

Is It Possible To Get Addicted To The Nicotine Gum Or Lozenge
Yes! It happens. Quitters sometimes become addicted to the nicotine gum or lozenge. Nicotine is the insanely addictive substance thats naturally in tobacco. Its the key reason why tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, and anything that contains nicotine is so addictive. Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs on the planet.
The goal in using nicotine replacement products is to help you quit tobacco. Its not super common but sometimes Quitters find it hard, in particular, to stop using the nicotine gum or nicotine lozenge after theyve quit tobacco. The tobacco industry spends billions of dollars each year to create and market ads that show smoking as exciting, glamorous, and safe. Tobacco use is also shown in video games, online, and on TV. And movies showing people smoking are another big influence. Studies show that young people who see smoking in movies are more likely to start smoking.
A newer influence on tobacco use is the e-cigarette and other high-tech, fashionable electronic vaping devices. Often wrongly seen as harmless, and easier to get and use than traditional tobacco products, these devices are a way for new users to learn how to inhale and become addicted to nicotine, which can prepare them for smoking.
