He said He did not come to condemn the world but to save it. He said He came to set the captives free. Yes, the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life.. And that doesnt just mean life in Heaven where there is no sin, it means having a victorious life on earth. It means we can break chains of addiction no matter what they are.
Yes, the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy but Jesus came to give us life and life in abundance . Abundant life is not struggling with sin. God has made it possible for us to be reconciled with Him, forgiven of our sin and empowered to break chains of addiction and live a victorious life.
Sin is like a deep ravine that separates us from God. In order to cross that vast divide, we need a bridge. Jesus is that bridge. As we accept Him as our Savior, we are empowered to live a new life in Christ, putting our past behind and embracing the freedom we can have in Jesus.
For those Christians who continue to struggle do not feel condemned. Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it. The Bible also tells us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Repentance is the first step to break chains of addiction but there is much more we can do to walk in victory. Different Christian writers have different perspectives on how one can overcome, but I would like to share just five things that have worked in my life to break chains of addiction.

Thus, it is wise to see the potential danger and exercise caution in the use of prescription painkillers.Proverbs 22:3.

No. The Bible acknowledges: Healthy people do not need a physician, but those who are ill do. Likewise, the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse says: Drug addiction is a complex disease, and quitting usually takes more than good intentions or a strong will. Of course, the help that God provides is far stronger than anyones willpower. Still, many who have broken free from substance addiction by following the Bibles counsel also needed the help of medical treatment. c For instance, a man named Allen recalls: When I was giving up alcohol, the physical pain of withdrawal was tremendous. Thats when I realized that I needed medical treatment in addition to the spiritual help I was getting.

Fasting is a bit off-putting in our culture, but Jesus said Christians would fast. The Bible is filled with stories about real people facing real problems they couldnt handle alone. When they added a time of fasting things changed. God stepped in and saved nations from annihilation, healed sickness, restored kingdoms, gave visions and so much more.
Fasting is powerful in that it helps you humble yourself before God like nothing else. When you are humbled before God you are inviting HIM to do a work in your life that will change everything.

How To Overcome Addiction
Pornography is an addiction.
An addiction is defined as the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.
Enslaved to a habit. Even when you realized the damage the habit causes you are enslaved to it. The habit calls your name and you are back at it before you even had time to process the choice.
When thinking about pornography you must keep in mind that it is an addiction.

When Your Addiction Is To A Narcissist
If you have an energy vampire, or narcissist, in your life and you are hanging on to the relationship to the point where your life is disrupted, this is called narcissistic addiction. And it is real! In fact, there are even biochemical changes in your body that take place, as with any addiction. Because of this, your brain chemicals can actually lock you into addiction to an energy vampire. Of course, if you already have addictive tendencies such as to drugs or alcohol you may understand the brain chemical aspect. It works like this:
You experience the release of dopamine when the narcissist is love-bombing you with gifts and compliments. You also experience the release of oxytocin when you are physically around your energy vampire, especially if you are in a sexual relationship. Then, when the energy vampire starts to exhibit unpredictable behavior, you experience adrenaline rushes. Finally, when you experience abuse at the hands of a narcissist you ultimately experience the effects of a constant stream of cortisol.

Analog vs. Digital
Most, if not all New Years resolutions are aimed at making us better versions of ourselves. Start that diet, work out more, learn a new language or give up smoking. Regardless of the want, without commitment, sustainable change is impossible. What we discuss for this post is one of the hardest biblical principles to be consistently and mindfully aware of. And the only easy way I can think of, is to lay a framework for a comparison using the following electronic signals: analog and digital. Follow along in lesson 17 of our Bible study on overcoming addictions.
An analog signal is best described using the word intensity and a scale of 0 to 10. Analog describes things like how loud the volume is, how fast is the fan spinning. The curious thing about this type of signal is that it is observed best over time. Time affects our perception and interpretation of analog. Over the course of time, analog signals tend to trend one direction or the other, much like our lives and the choices we make.
