Abpm Board Exam Tips And Tricks

In general, the feedback on the ABPM board exam is that this is not just about clinical practice. The exam has significant elements that deal with process, statistical analysis, and ethical and legal concerns. 15% of the exam is dedicated to ethics, which makes sense for an addiction medicine exam, but is considerably more than most boards. 20% of the exam deals with epidemiological questions and prevention, while 40% of the exam is more of the traditional clinical topics . The remaining 25% is more of a memorization section that includes definitions, genetics, pharmacology, and neurobiology.

The best performers on the exam have:

  • Read the blueprint so that theyre aware of the unique nature of the exam
  • Have read textbooks
  • Have done many practice questions. There is a correlation between the number of practice questions taken and performance on most board exams, so learning how to take the exam in a timed environment is key.
  • Our Addiction Medicine board certification question bank is specifically targeted to the exam topics and serves as a great review. Even if you mark the question correctly, reviewing the explanation is a good way to discover additional context around the questions. We have worked to create detailed explanations that explain the rationales, and occasionally how to approach the problem.

Internal Medicine Moc Requirements And Courses

What are the American Board of Internal Medicine MOC Requirements?

The American Board of American Internal Medicine requires physicians to earn at least 1 MOC activity every 2 years and 100 MOC points every 5 years to maintain their board certification.

In addition, to stay certified, physicians are required to pass the Internal Medicine MOC exam or the Internal Medicine Knowledge-Check in. If you decide to opt for the MOC exam, you must pass it within the last 10 years of last passing it. If you opt for the Knowledge-Check in instead, you must do this every two years to remain on a successful path.

    Purpose of Internal Medicine MOC

Internal Medicine MOC requirements are designed to ensure physicians stay current in their field of practice and as a result create improved patient satisfaction and patient outcomes. The ABIM claims that MOC improves value of care without sacrificing quality and that board-certified physicians command higher salaries. For example, according to the ABIM states that Internists who maintain their board certification have a 19% less mortality rate when treating patients compared to physicians who did not maintain their board certification.

Quality Healthcare Public Trust And Setting The Standards In Addiction Medicine:

The American Board of Addiction Medicine provides assurance to the American public that addiction medicine physicians have the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and treat addiction. Founded in 2007, ABAM was the nation’s first medical specialty board that certified addiction medicine physicians across a range of medical specialties. Certification examinations in addiction medicine are now administered by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and the American Osteopathic Association. ABAM will remain a resource for its Diplomates and the public through the end of the American Board of Preventive Medicines Practice Pathway, currently scheduled to conclude in 2025 at which time up-to-date ABAM Diplomates will be eligible to apply for a Time-Unlimited, Lifetime credential.
