Do I Need Health Insurance To Receive This Service

New graduate of Salvation Army treatment program reflects on struggle with drug addiction

The referral service is free of charge. If you have no insurance or are underinsured, we will refer you to your state office, which is responsible for state-funded treatment programs. In addition, we can often refer you to facilities that charge on a sliding fee scale or accept Medicare or Medicaid. If you have health insurance, you are encouraged to contact your insurer for a list of participating health care providers and facilities.

The Supreme Court Case That Could Reshape Us Elections

The opioid epidemic, the resurgence of methamphetamine use, and the persistence of alcohol abuse have exposed a national shortage of residential treatment programs that last beyond 30 days. Some 80% of the countrys recovery facilities lack extended inpatient services in large part because of surging health care costs. The scarcity of such programs concerns George Koob, director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

In the broad scope of recovery, the longer and more intensive the program, the better you do, he says. Many Americans think the recovery period from alcohol use disorder and addiction in general is 28 days. But thats just the beginning for any treatment.

RENO, Nev. – Renos Salvation Army is making a push to help more men battling substance abuse by getting them into free treatment.

Like many in Washoe County, Michael M. spent years battling his addiction.

I was addicted to meth, alcohol, marijuana, and all of that. Its what I would do to mask my pain from previous childhood things that, you know, caused a lot of resentment, a lot of rebellion.

After losing his family relationships, including with his son, and being in prison twice, he knew it was time for a change.

When I started applying for programs when I was gonna be released from incarceration, this is the program I filled out an application and it was approved, said Michael M.

He says although it was difficult adjusting to the rules and working with others, the structure of the Salvation Armys Adult Rehabilitation Program, gave him confidence and hope.

From the therapy to the chapel services to the homework, just every day, make your bed, tuck your shirt in, said Michael M. Its designed to teach you all the things that you mightve either taken for granted or that you never were taught as a younger man.

Program beneficiaries participate in spiritual offerings, AA meetings and work therapy, where the men sort donations for 40 hours a week to help keep their minds busy and learn to cope with the stresses of the workplace.

We introduce people to God, that allows them to heal their hurts, their hang-ups, said Furlong.

    Our strategy

Our homelessness services are psychologically informed environments. When we provide our services, we consider our clients’ thought processes, personalities, feelings, and the things that may have happened to them in the past.

We are currently rolling out our addictions strategy which will see every service able to deliver structured, low threshold, therapeutic programmes. Our services reduce harm, build resilience, and develop individuals core beliefs in themselves and their own capacity to evoke change and gain control over their choices.

    Gloucester House

Gloucester House is a rehabilitation centre that has recently been awarded an Outstanding rating from the regulatory body, the Care Quality Commission. It is open for treatment for people who can access local authority funding or source private funding. Our corps and community-based programmes can be accessed by all.

    Our view on addiction

We believe that addiction is a maladaptive way of coping: a normal response to an abnormal experience or situation, often based in our early years. We believe addiction is the result of a complex interaction between nature and nurture.

Individuals use their addiction as a source of temporary relief from pain. We shouldnt be asking Why the addiction? instead we should ask Why the pain?.
