Building A Strong Team
Along with the operational and patient elements, the new-era AAC is focused on building out a strong team of treatment professionals, from the C-suite down to the clinicians and support staff inside facilities.
In June, Britton brought in David Hans, PsyD, as chief clinical officer to oversee AACs treatment operations and look for ways to improve it. I wanted to hire somebody who would really own the clinical product, says Britton. Part of what David is doing is working throughout the entirety of the pipeline of client relationship and engagement, from when we get the first phone call to when they leave the facility to after they leave the facility.
Britton is also actively recruiting a chief operating officer. Prior to my coming, he says, the CEO had managed everybody at the corporate level and the field level. When we have too many reports, we dont do anything as well as it should be done. My vision for that person is to be a resource to our CEOs out in the field, to help them be as successful as possible in building and managing the right operational cadence. Because the better we do our operations, the better the experience is for our staff and our clients.

One of the Nashville area’s newest publicly traded company will be the new occupant of the former Tractor Supply Co. headquarters in Brentwood.
American Addiction Centers Inc. signed a 10-year lease for the entire 102,000-square-foot building in the Maryland Farms office park as part of plans to support the company’s next stage of growth, officials said.
The provider of substance abuse treatment services for people with drug and alcohol addiction expects by November to complete moving into the new space, which will be its new corporate headquarters and call center. “We look forward to the much larger space to continue scaling our call center operations and expanding our training facilities as well as having the flexibility to quickly scale up operations to address new opportunities,” said Michael Cartwright, its Chairman and CEO.
Currently, American Addiction Centers has its headquarters in roughly 21,800 square feet of office space just over a mile away at 115 East Park Drive in Brentwood. The company also leases roughly 3,350 square feet of laboratory space in Brentwood to perform quantitative drug testing and other lab services that support its treatment centers.

That evolution has taken the form of a strategic reorientation, focusing on several aspects of the companys operation.
One key step was to embrace the in-patient payer model, a shift that Ebbett was instrumental in guiding. When we went out into the market strategically, we found quite a receptive group of payers to our applications to go in-network, he says. As they did their due diligence and assessed our applications, we were able to move through those applications very quickly because of the quality of the level of care that we provided. It was a lot of contractual work and operational discipline to get there, but we were able to make that transition over about a 12- to 18-month period. Britton says AAC is now more than 90% in-network, with almost every single major player in every market.

Civil War Through The 1930s
During the American Civil War, on March 25, 1863, Confederate Brig. Gen. led a column of men into Union-controlled Brentwood, intent on recapturing this section of the Nashville & Decatur Railroad. Forrest performed a quick sneak attack on Union Lt. Col. Edward Bloodgood. Forrest had cut the telegraph wires, isolating Bloodgood as he brought in heavy artillery. Bloodgood surrendered Brentwood that day, which was a significant loss for the Federals. Overall, there were 305 Union and 6 Confederate casualties. Much of Brentwood was destroyed in the battle.
After the war, many of the large plantations were sold or had plots leased to and tenant farmers. Smaller farms dotted the countryside. became the commodity crop of choice. The population was stable for almost 100 years.
In the 1930s, even during the Great Depression, Brentwood began to rebound. One by one, businessmen and merchants from Nashville bought the former plantation houses. They began to revive fox hunting on their estates and raise quality horses.

AAC, headquartered in Brentwood, Tenn., was founded in 2011 by Michael Cartwright, who had operated treatment programs in Tennessee since the mid-1990s. AAC built state-of-the-art facilities in markets such as Las Vegas, Southern California and Florida, looking to become a national brand that could draw clients from all parts of the country. Its launch was well-timed: The 2012 passage of the Affordable Care Act meant that almost overnight, every insurance plan was required to provide benefits for substance use treatment. In that climate, AAC generated substantial revenue and grew rapidly. In 2014, it became the first addiction treatment provider to be publicly traded.
